Font Managers

Just thought to ask, what do people here use for typeface manager utilities? I've worked with Adobe ATM, of course, but can't really justify a commercial typeface management system on my home systems; so that one took a little more searching. Currently, I'm using a program called "The Font Thing," a freeware font manager that I find works pretty well, but was wondering if people here had stumbled across anything better.

We're using Extensis Suitcase X1, running OSX, and primarily the Adobe CS stuff. It's buggy, and I'm personally not thrilled with it, especially with Tiger (it was slightly less buggy with Panther). It has an option to open fonts only when needed, automatically; the annoyance is that it will close said fonts as the document is closed, regardless of whether another, open, document still uses the fonts. This is very annoying. I would say that most of my crashing or hanging problems derive from fonts. Yep. I think we're going to explore other options, however.

The issue of BUGS in Suitcase is also a huge issue with my staff here at the U of I...Trying to get arount the issue has lead from one headache to another...As a work around that has been almost full proof we had our Mac It folks install Classic Mac OS-9 on our G-5s and load all fonts into the macs using ATM and then we do a reboot in OSX each am post boot...No complaint for two months...
